Our Mission

Our mission is to perpetuate, promote, preserve, and introduce the various heritage languages and cultures of the immigrant population of Hawai’i and the United States and to use them for heritage education, social services, language, and cultural access, and people empowerment.

We aim to do that through the following objectives:

To enhance the teaching of heritage languages and cultures in Hawai’i through specific language-and-culture programs following various modalities of delivery.

To publish and distribute the works of select heritage educators, researchers, workers, and creative writers globally.

To engage in research and critical study of the works of heritage artists, heritage writers and cultural workers in Hawai’i, past and present.

To assist in improving the international and global distribution of studies about the heritage languages and cultures in Hawai’i and the United States.

To help strengthen the linkages and networks of heritage artists, educators, writers, researchers, cultural workers, and cultural leaders.

To support heritage educators, heritage writers, researchers, and cultural workers by giving writing grants, funds for retreat, travel grants, publication grants, scholarships, and institutional awards for exemplary achievement.
